    We are looking for an ambitious and motivated individual to join our administrative team. As an administrative clerk, you will be working with a large administrative team to facilitate high quality support to our barristers.


    About the Role
    You will be working with our team to perform the following tasks:
    - Deliveries and pick-ups for barristers as required.
    - Sort incoming mail and deliver to barrister chambers or pigeonholes.
    - Twice daily delivery rounds to barrister chambers.
    - Manage movement of fee books; log fee book movements and check fee books for unprocessed fees.
    - Sort and distribute outgoing mail.
    - Manage postage of briefs, inclusive of logging, labelling, wrapping and recording details and postage charges
    - Hand-deliver briefs to solicitors on behalf of barristers.
    - Ensure office equipment is kept stocked.


    About You

    As the role of administrative clerk changes and grows in an increasingly digital world, we are looking for someone with initiative and a strong commitment to providing the highest quality service to our barristers.
    Ideally, you will possess:
    - Mail handling skills and experience.
    - Skills with technology, including data entry and Microsoft package proficiency.
    - Punctuality and the ability to work to deadlines.
    - An understanding and ability to work with sensitive and confidential material.
    - Knowledge of the CBD area.
    - A Customer First Mindset.
    - The ability to anticipate and respond to our barrister’s needs.
    - A team player attitude.


    Additional Details
    Location: CBD Office, within the heart of Melbourne’s legal precinct.
    Work Type: Full-Time employment, 8:30am – 5:30pm
    Start Date: Negotiable.

    We now have an outstanding opportunity for a law student or graduate to join our team on a 12 month contract as a full-time personal assistant.

    This role will support two lawyers, offers considerable variety and is an excellent start to your legal career. You will be trained in and gain experience with software packages commonly used by law firms, learn how a legal firm works and build confidence in communicating with clients.

    A typical day will include:

    • Typing, editing and proof reading correspondence (including dictation, lengthy

    documents and tracked changes), Court documents and publications

    • Liaising with clients, lawyers and colleagues

    • Diary and task management

    • Telephone enquiries, including some relief reception

    • End of month activities including billing

    • Additional administrative tasks to ensure the smooth running of a busy and high profile

    family law practice

    • Other administrative tasks as required

    Ideally, you will have PA experience or professional experience in a legal

    administrative role as a law student or graduate working in a reputable family law or

    litigation practice together with strong interpersonal, organisational, attention to detail,

    MS Office, typing and computer skills.

    About the New Lawyers Program:

    VLA's New Lawyers Program is an amazing opportunity to learn on-the-job while being supported with strong mentors and structured training. This program has been designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to most effectively represent VLA's unique and diverse client base and make positive change for Victorians.

    The program will build your skills and experience in different areas of law, with four placements (six months each) in VLA's different offices throughout Victoria (including at least one placement in regional Victoria) and our legal Program areas. This does mean you will be required to change office locations every six months and additional travel is expected when at our suburban and regional offices.

    On our New Lawyers Program, you will be supervised and supported by the NLP manager, senior lawyers, trained placement host managers and an in-house practice that includes 60 LIV accredited specialists.

    At the end of the program, you will take up an ongoing lawyer role in one of our programs and offices – and continue your legal career in any direction!
